Immy Macintosh, a founder of the restaurant was born and raised in the North Eastern region of Thailand, where she grew up surrounded by the aroma of home-cooked meals and the simple joy of country life. Her love for food began in her grandmother’s kitchen, where she learned to cook using traditional Thai methods and fresh, home-grown ingredients. Every dish she made was full of care, flavour, and love — and those memories still inspire her today.After moving to Perth, Immy found herself missing the taste of real, home-style Thai food — the kind that brings people together and feels like family. That longing became the inspiration for Est. Home of Torung Market. Immy wanted to share the food she love, made with authentic ingredients, traditional techniques, and a genuine Thai spirit with quality for Australian local produces.Immy also incredibly grateful for the support of her friends and family who helped make this dream a reality. The Story of Torung Market Perth, and it is now "Est. Home of Torung Market"
Torung Market Perth began with a dream of creating and bringing the authentic Thai traditional street food market and wine event in Perth. "Torung Market" is the name of a Thai local market that opens up until late at night.
In the early days, we were just a humble Thai street food pop-up event & Wine, which we hosted ourselves and joined at local events, bringing the vibrant flavors of Southeast Asia to the Perth food scene. With every market we attended, we felt the excitement of connecting with people, sharing bold, unforgettable dishes, and offering a taste of something unique. Our food wasn’t just about feeding people; it was about creating an experience—a journey to another place, another culture, with every bite.
But as much as we loved the energy of the street food scene, we knew deep down that we wanted more. The constant moving, setting up, and tearing down each week left us craving something more permanent—a place where we could settle in and build something lasting. So, we started the search for a place we could call home.
It wasn’t easy. We moved locations several times, always searching for that perfect spot where our vision could grow. Each move was a step closer to finding our place, but also a chance to connect with new faces, hear new stories, and expand our love for what we do. We learned along the way, fine-tuning our recipes, improving our service, and listening to our community.
Finally, after a lot of searching, we found the perfect spot. It was the place that felt right, where we could finally lay down roots and truly grow. Est. Home of Torung Market became not just a restaurant, but a place where we could continue the journey we had started at the markets—a place where everyone, whether they’ve been with us from the beginning or are joining for the first time, could experience the flavors, the culture, and the heart of our food.
From our humble beginnings as a street food pop-up to finding our home, Est. Home of Torung Market has always been about more than just serving food. It’s about community, passion, and the joy of sharing a meal together. We’re proud to have made it this far, and we can’t wait to continue the journey with all of you.
